María Belén Chapur is a 43 years old Argentinean Journalist with whom Governor of South Carolina, Mark Sanford, had an extramarital affair. This affair is the one of the biggest political scandals in the history of United States.

Mark Sanford had gone missing from June 18 to June 24. During that period, there were many speculations about where might have he been. Neither his family nor his office knew where he exactly was but his office had released a press release saying he is hiking at the Appalachian Trail. On June 24, he arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport where he revealed that he had been to Argentina. Later he organized a press conference and confessed that he had cheated his wife for an Argentinean woman whom he had met about eight years ago. He also told that it has been only a year since he got romantically connected with an Argentinean woman.

After the press conference, Mark Sanford’s post-marital relationship was no more a secret but people still didn’t know who that Argentinean woman was. However on June 25, an Argentinean newspaper, La Nación, based in Buenos Aires, broke exclusive news saying Mark Sanford’s secret girlfriend was María Belén Chapur, who is a divorced Argentine mother with two sons.

Such a shocking disclosure of secret relationship shook almost everybody which resulted in demand of Mark’s resignation from Governor’s post. But, he is in the post till this date and says that he has no intention to resign.
