Cuil Overview

Cuil (previously Cuill) is a new search engine. Probably you’ve heard about it because it was a blast release. Cuil was considered to be a Google killer. After its release, Cuil was an instant hit with over million queries in few first days.  I was regularly looking at Alexa rank where Cuil occupied a top 200 position. But due to irrelevant results and primitive presentation, Cuil had a sudden fall.

Cuil isn’t liked by people because it doesn’t contain features that could satisfy web searchers. Cuil attaches related images with each webpage it serves and sometime those images are not related to a webpage it is attached to. For some queries Cuil shows it has over million results but going through 5 or few pages ends up a result. For most of the queries, results retrieved are so irrelevant and sometimes funny too. It is true that other search engines like Google and Yahoo has lots of experience in ranking and filtering webpages. Cuil is new and they have lot more to do. Claiming to be the largest search engine doesn’t mean it is the best. In this competitive market, I think Cuil can survive only if it lists quality pages and serves quality results otherwise it will remain at the list of search engines among thousands of other search engines in the world.
