Top Chef is an American reality competition show that airs on the cable television network Bravo, in which chefs compete against one another in culinary challenges. They are judged with a panel of professional chefs and also other notables from the food and wine industry with one or more contestants eliminated in every episode. The show is created by Magical Elves Productions, the same company which created Project Runway.

The show has generated three spin-offs: Top Chef: Masters, featuring established, award-winning chefs, Top Chef: Just Desserts, featuring pastry chefs, and Top Chef North america. One more spin-off can be planned: Top Chef Junior, featuring contestants in their early teens.

Each episode of Best Chef, save for the climax, has had two challenges.

In the Quickfire Obstacle, each chef is enquired to cook a bowl with certain requirements (one example is, using specific ingredients so they can inspire a certain taste) or engage in a culinary-related challenge (as an example, a mise en place relay or possibly a taste test). They are usually given an hour or so or less to full these tasks. A guest judge selects more than one chefs as the best inside challenge. Early in the year the winning chef(ohydrates) are granted immunity through the following Elimination Challenge. As the number of contestants dwindle nobody receives immunity and as an alternative the winner gets another “reward” (for example being team captain for a team challenge). To emphasis the culture and environment in the sixth season’s setting, the show introduced “high-stakes” Quickfires, which would occasionally replace a consistent Quickfire. These differed by having an extravagant additional prize threatened for the winner (usually a huge cash prize). Alternatively the stakes of the challenge could also involve the individual at the very bottom level being sent home even prior to an elimination challenge. High-stakes Quickfires would proceed onward in further periods.

In the Elimination Difficult task, the chefs have to prepare a number of dishes to meet the process requirements. Many of these are individual challenges and will require several courses, although some instances require teams to perform the challenge. Teams may be selected because of the remaining contestants among by themselves, but more often are selected with the random process of “drawing knives” from a butcher’s block, with the team identification revealed for the blade of the utensil. The chefs may have from some hours to a few days to complete this challenge. Ingredients for Elimination Challenges are generally limited to what exists in the “Top Chef” kitchen and what the chefs purchase in a food store, with a possibly restricted budget. However, certain challenges may provide specific ingredients or limit the kind or number of ingredients which they can use, while others require non-traditional strategies of obtaining ingredients (for instance asking people door-to-door).
